Description
This magnificent sculpture explores Filipino heritage, history, and life by the water--executed in a powerful contemporary way.
Valesca by Cris Velasco is an intricate brass-on-wood statement sculpture that captures the enduring heritage of traditional Filipino coastal settlements in exquisite three-dimensional detail. The vertical assemblage integrates weathered natural wood with meticulously cut, hammered, and welded brass depicting multi-tiered stilt houses, ladders, delicate foliage, and fine fishing nets crowned by a vibrant red spherical sun. Each metal component is shaped and soldered entirely by hand, creating a striking textural contrast between the golden luster of the brass architecture and the raw, sculpted grain of the timber foundation.
