After breaking ground in March of this year, SM Cares with Generation HOPE and the Department of Education turned over the first two classrooms completed under their collaborative Build a Classroom Project to the community of San Isidro National High School in Pampanga.

Through the initiative, SM malls nationwide supported the generosity of movie-going Filipinos with the HOPE in a Movie campaign. For every SM Cinema ticket sold, five pesos is donated toward the effort with the goal of completing a total of ten classrooms that will benefit public school students across the country.

“At SM Cares, we believe stronger communities are honed through the young Filipinos we help educate by giving them access to spaces that safeguard and support their learning,” said Richard M. Caluyo, Senior Assistant Vice President for SM Cares.

“The classrooms we built and turned over together with our partners today is an invaluable milestone because they are evidence of how working together toward one meaningful goal will always deliver results.”

The joint effort follows SM Cares’ commitment to empower communities through collective action.

“Every classroom built is an investment in the future of our nation. By providing students with safe and conducive learning spaces, we create opportunities for them to learn, grow, and reach their full potential,” said Caluyo.

“Today we are grateful for our dearest partners, SM and Friends of HOPE, na nagbigay sa atin ng [dalawang] classrooms. Hindi lang sila space kung saan mag aaral, and mga ito ay space kung saan kaya ninyong mangarap para maging matatag ang inyong future,” said Jaquelene P. Marano, Principal III of San Isidro National High School.

For students of San Isidro National High School, the classrooms offer more comfortable spaces in which to learn and grow. They also give teachers an improved environment for guiding their students and provide families with greater hope for their youth’s education and future.

SM Cares encourages Filipinos to catch upcoming blockbusters at any SM Cinema in support of the ongoing HOPE in a movie campaign which aims to turn over eight more public schools nationwide.
