A SALUTE TO SUITS

The ultimate secret to wearing suits is nailing the basics
Gents, it’s about time you look smart and put-together—as if you had just walked out straight from the pages of GQ. The best thing to get you started on the road to classy? Suits. Here’s our quick cheat sheet on nailing the basics.
1. Choose an appropriate color for daytime—hues that are neutral like charcoal grey.
Navy is good, too. Neutrals are more versatile and ideal for everyday wear. Reserve your blacks for black-tie affairs
2. The fit of your jacket matters.
It should taper in at the waist and accentuate your shoulders. Hem-wise, it should fall where your fingertips end. The sleeves, on the other hand, should sit at the top of your wrists. Pro-tip: Try on as many jackets as you can until you find the right fit.
3. The right pants are just as important as the jacket.
Make sure your trousers skim the top of your shoes and create a crease. In short, length matters, the correct one for you, that is.
4. Two things to look for in a high-quality dress shirt? The crispness of the collar and clean stitching.
5. The width of the tie should match the width of the lapel.
Thin lapels look most modern.
6. Polish your look with a pocket square, but make sure it doesn’t match your tie.
7. Get the right shoes.
Brown ones look best for everyday wear, while tans are best for lighter-colored suits. When in doubt, opt for a pair of loafers or oxfords.
Suits are available at H&M and Zara.
