Edgar Tejerero, President of SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc. (SMLEI) announces a successful past year and the 2016 plans and programs set to revolutionize Philippine entertainment.

Edgar Tejerero proclaims an efficacious 2015 with a 12% growth in number of cinemas and the introduction of new businesses such as the DX Laser Projection Screen Cinema, Blink video-on-demand service, and the announcement of alliances such as the Walt Disney Company.

For 2016, SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc. foreruns the country’s entertainment sector by welcoming innovative products and strengthening current partnerships. This year, SM Cinema, the largest cinema and exhibition brand in the country, will convert more of its theatres to laser projection cinemas, which will emit better motion picture quality for the movie-loving patrons. SM Cinema will also introduce more branches of the Director’s Club Cinema: a community cinema with plush leather recliner seats and minimal seating capacity assuring patrons of a more private screening experience. The company will introduce “BLINK CINEMA:” stand-alone community theatres available in remote provinces. Designed to reach patrons who do not have near access to in-mall activities, the stand-alone theatres powered by Blink will release current films simultaneously airing with Metro Manila branches. The Blink Cinema theatre may also be used as a venue for neighbourhood, school, or corporate events.

Blink will also introduce BLINK ONLINE CINEMA which guarantees never-before-seen flicks straight to the user’s mobile gadgets. Blink also offers unique services such as Blink Pay per View, Blink Unlimited, and Blink Rentals— Blink is the only service in the country that offers rentals on a per title basis. Bringing the most current movies to your devices, Blink offers movies just 2-3 months after its theatrical run. Blink is also the only service that offers live channel streaming with channels such as ETC, 2nd Ave, and Jack TV. Unlike other video-on-demand services, Blink focuses on customer convenience by offering different payment options such as post-paid bills, ePLUS prepaid cards, scratch cards, and even using SM Advantage points. In keeping line with cashless consumption, SMLEI’s ePLUS card affirms its partnership with the Cebu BRT as the official mode of payment for MyBus. The ePLUS – MYBUS CARD may also be used to purchase movie and event tickets, snacks, groceries, and even apparel.

ePLUS will also be the form of entrance at the two big events of SMLEI’s Mall of Asia Arena. Mall of Asia Arena, which housed the Papal visit and the APEC last year, will host more global acts, such as the second season of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Adding to the customer’s ease-of-use, SM Tickets announces the “PRINT AT HOME” campaign where patrons may print their cinema or event ticket in the comfort of their own home.

DISNEY, SMLEI’s strategic marketing partner, will be more evident in the activities and events of SM. Beginning with rewarding 30 families a red carpet experience at Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney’s newest movies such as Captain America, Finding Dory and Star Wars Rogue One will find life-size interactive displays coupled with special promos at SM Supermalls. SMLEI will also be launching an SM- Disney Mobile app within the year.

Also life-size, SMLEI undertakes THE MANILA- ACAPULCO GALLEON MUSEUM. The dome-shaped museum’s main feature is a replica of the Galleon ships used for trade. The Manila-Acapulco Galleon Museum aims to give visitors a detailed history of the 250-year old globalized trade where Philippines and Mexico played major roles, and the impact on today’s trade, commerce, banking, travel, and cultural exchange. The dome will showcase the true-to-life process of building a galleon, while exhibiting porcelain, gold, and other goods used for trading in the Spanish era.

“We are not looking only into building new businesses but also in improving our currents brands. That is why our objective in 2016 is to strengthen our structure, renovate our facilities, upgrade our service, and maintain our relevance.” says Tejerero. “SMLEI’s goal this year is growth—not only for the expansion of the company but for the economy. We want the world to take notice of the Philippines as a diverse and rapidly emergent country.”

With old and with new, SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc. continues to pave the way for ground-breaking entertainment, working toward the nation’s development as the globe takes watch.
