We're already halfway through 2024, and the big screen continues to deliver great stories. 

This June, 22 new movies are hitting SM Cinemas, promising to make you laugh, cry, and sit at the edge of your seat. With the rainy season upon us, what better way to enjoy your time at your favorite SM Malls than by watching these films, especially if you get caught in a sudden downpour?

Movies You Don’t Want to Miss

The Watchers (Horror, Mystery)

When Mina, a 28-year-old artist, decides to go for a drive one day, she unexpectedly finds herself in an expansive forest on Western Island. Suddenly, her GPS and phone fail, and her car stalls in the middle of nowhere. Seeking shelter, she discovers she is sharing it with three other strangers, all being watched by a mysterious creature.

"The Watchers" is a film adaptation of the book by A.M. Shine. The screenplay is written by Ishana Night Shyamalan, who also directs the film. If her name sounds familiar, it's because her father is M. Night Shyamalan, known for his supernatural-themed works, who also serves as the film's producer.

Meet the cast: Dakota Fanning (I Am Sam, The Twilight Saga, The Equalizer 3) stars as Mina, alongside Georgina Campbell (Bird Box) and Olwen Fouéré, whom The Irish Times listed as one of Ireland’s greatest film actors in 2020.

Train to Hell (Kereta Berdarah)(Horror)(SM Exclusive)

Holidays are always fun and exciting, especially when spent with loved ones. This is exactly what Purnama and her sister aim for as they head to Sangkara Resort. Their journey begins on a chartered train decked out in luxurious style. However, strange things start happening from the outset, including a passenger becoming possessed and going on a killing spree in one of the carriages. Will Purnama and her sister make it to their destination alive?

Train to Hell is a film by renowned Indonesian director and writer Rizal Mantovani, whose works have become box office hits, including Jelangkung (2021) and Kuntilanak (2005). The film made its international premiere at the Udine Far East Film Festival, an annual event that promotes Asian cinema, especially East Asian cinema, in Europe.

Meet the cast: Indonesian actress and model Hanna Malasan, known for her roles in Cinta Bete and Ratu Adil, plays Purnama. Singer and actress Zara Leola (Adventures of Catching Light, Kuntilanak) plays Flower, Purnama’s sister.

Inside Out 2 (Animation, Adventure)

Following the success of the Oscar-winning Inside Out, we return to Riley's story, now that she’s a teenager. We reunite with Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust as they work to ensure Riley is living her best life. However, their operations face a sudden upheaval as new emotions start to emerge. Are our beloved gang ready for these changes?

Inside Out was one of the top-grossing films of 2015. Although director Pete Docter initially had no ideas for a sequel at the time, he left the possibility open. Seven years later, in 2022, the announcement came that Inside Out was greenlit for a sequel, with a spin-off show, also announced just this May, premiering in Disney+ sometime in 2025

Meet the cast: Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black return as the voices of Joy, Sadness, and Anger, respectively. Tony Hale takes over as the voice of Fear, and Liza Lapira voices Disgust. Additionally, we will hear Maya Hawke (Stranger Things) as Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) as Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue Is the Warmest Colour) as Ennui, and Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell) as Embarrassment.

Skye Hoshi: Animé Girl (Fantasy, Animé)(SM Exclusive)

When your fantasy comes to life and your favorite animé character steps out of the screen, it’s a dream come true for many fans—right? This is exactly what happens to Atom, a comic store employee who, by a stroke of fantasy luck, meets Skye Hoshi in real life. As Skye Hoshi explores the wonders of the real world, her absence from the animé world threatens its very existence. Can Skye Hoshi find a way back to her own world before it's destroyed for good?

"Skye Hoshi: Animé Girl" is a production from independent film studio Pure Magic Pictures, owned by the film’s writer and director, Kalani Hubbard, and his wife, Stefanie.

Meet the cast: Olivia Roldan (Plunder Quest) plays the titular role Skye Hoshi. Meanwhile, Hunter Kohl (The Associate) plays Atom who helps Skye Hoshi go back to the animé world.

The Bikeriders is based on the 1967 book by Danny Lyon. Set in the 1960s, the movie tells the story of the Vandals MC, a Chicago outlaw motorcycle club. Initially a family for local outcasts, the group gradually descends into violent organized crime. Can the Vandals MC return to the original vision set by its founder?

Meet the cast: Jodie Comer (My Mad Fat Diary, Doctor Foster) stars as Kathy, alongside Austin Butler (Elvis) and Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, Venom).

A Quiet Place: Day One (Horror, Sci-Fi)

When aliens with supersonic hearing invade Earth, the only way to survive is to stay silent. This is the challenge Sam faces during the alien invasion in her city of New York. A Quiet Place: Day One is set years before its predecessors, A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place II. This installment finally provides the backstory of how the world became silent, and hopefully offers clues on how to defeat these aliens once and for all.

Meet the cast: Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) stars as Sam, while Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) portrays Eric, another New Yorker striving to survive the chaos that engulfs their city.

Nothing seems to be going Joe’s way, and his career as a young gamer appears futile at best. However, when he unexpectedly inherits a house, it feels like his luck might finally be changing. But is it really? The house is dilapidated and, more troublingly, haunted by ghosts that refuse to leave no matter what he does. Instead of being discouraged, Joe sees this as an opportunity to turn his life around, deciding to work with the ghosts to achieve his goals.

My Boo is directed by Komgrit Triwimol, one of the six screenwriters and directors of the coming-of-age film Fan Chan (My Girl), the top-grossing domestic film in Thailand in 2003. He also directed six episodes of the hit Netflix series, Girl From Nowhere.

Meet the cast: Gee Sutthirak Subvijitra stars as Joe. He is a Thai model and actor known for his roles in Classic Again, 4 Kings, and 4 Kings II. Maylada Susri plays the role of the ghost Anong. She is an actress, model, and singer who was a member of the girl group "Kiss Me Five."
