A day at the movies nowadays is a contest of who knows best about the flicks you're about to see. There's the spoiler junkie, the movie review researcher, or the buzzkill who never seems to get excited but will watch with you anyway. So here’s a cheat sheet of factoids about July’s three biggest movies that you can share to make the movie experience more enjoyable for everyone. And to help you become the most fun movie guide to be with.
TERMINATOR: GENISYS
Showing on July 1 at SM Cinemas
Your Did-You-Know Spiel: Although Genisys is already the fifth Terminator movie, it’s the first installment in a new trilogy. Joining Arnold Schwarzenegger this time as Sarah Connor is Emilia Clarke from HBO’s Game of Thrones. But she’s not the first GOT cast member to play the part. Lena Headey had been the title character in the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV series.
Look Out for the Movie’s Easter Egg: Because the new movie time-travels to 1984, costume designer Susan Matheson needed the classic Nike Vandal trainers shown in the original film. Finding no luck on online stores, she appealed to Nike for a new pair, suggesting halting shooting until new Vandals are available. It took months for Nike to cave in, eventually manufacturing not one but 25 pairs of Vandals just for Genisys.
Follow Up With a Terminator Souvenir: Get awesome themed gear and toys at SM Supermalls, including shirts at the SM Store with a 1984 Arnie Terminator print. There will also be gaming events at SM Cyberzone, featuring the Terminator: Genisys Revolution game app that boasts hundreds of missions and a rich variety of futuristic weapons.
MINIONS
Showing on July 8 at SM Cinemas
Minion Trivia to Impress Your Kids: Co-Director Pierre Coffin voices all the 899 Minions. They speak Minionese, a mixture of gibberish and real words in French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Indian, AND Filipino! Also, point the kids toward Bob the Minion’s eyes: they’re in different colors, green and brown.
Play a Minions Game: Check out the assorted looks of the Minions. Help the kids identify their shapes (small and plump, medium, and tall and thin), hairstyles (bald, buzz cut, sprout, spiky, and combed), and eye types (one eye and two eyes).
Enjoy Minions Beyond the Movie: Watch Minions at SM Cinema for a chance to win a 3D2N package trip to Singapore, including passes to Universal Studios, airfare, and hotel accommodations. And while you wait for the latest news about this raffle, you can meet and greet Kevin, Stuart, and Bob in person! Check

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - ROGUE NATION
Showing on July 31 at SM Cinemas
Drop This Backstory Before You See the Movie: A throwback to 1996 would recall Tom Cruise clutching onto a high-speed train and then a helicopter in the first M:I movie. That’s child’s play compared to the 2015 installment. This time, you will witness Tom Cruise again doing his own stunt but now hanging on to the side of a cargo plane at takeoff. To ensure safety, the actor ironed out details with the actual designers of the A400m Airbus they were using. You would think that the critical concern was Tom Cruise falling off. He shared in an interview, however, that they were more worried with bird strikes and random debris.
Get Ready With Advance Tickets: To get the best seats, buy tickets in advance on July 22 to 28 from
here. An advance purchase further entitles you to a free premium gift!
For After-Movie Discussion: Tom Cruise is 52 — and still giving us death-defying action. It's only fitting that July's lineup of movies ends with the world's biggest action star, who's always so earnest and determined to give us memorable thrills. It has been said more than once that there's probably nobody who loves movies more than Tom Cruise. When it comes to blockbuster action — indeed — in Tom Cruise we trust.
Now that you know more beyond the trailers, you can enjoy these big movies at SM Supermalls all the better! And there’s still a lot of fun and action lined up this Blockbuster Month: Meet the Minions and take fun photos with Kevin, Stuart, and Bob. Watch &Win a raffle ticket for a chance to fly to Singapore. Visit Snack Time at SM Cinemas and pop-up booths for cool Movie Collectibles, and head to Cyberzone for Movie-themed Gaming Events.
