The New Ormoc City National High School Special Program in the Arts (NOCNHS-SPA) offers various specializations, including creative writing, media arts, dance, music, theater, and visual arts. The SPA’s aim is to hone students not just academically but also holistically in order to cultivate cultured young minds. As part of SM Visayas 1’s Beyond Green Campaign, students from SPA’s Visual Arts discipline were given a challenge in the past month: to inspire their generation to join in the movement for a sustainable future through incorporating the trash we see every day into mixed-media artwork. The students took on this challenge with the resolve to contribute in the world’s plight against climate change. Ms. Ma. Theresa M. Ablen, Grade 10 teacher of SPA, shared that this is the first time their students are attempting to create mixed-media art.
