The National Commission on Senior Citizens recognized SM’s contributions to the welfare of senior citizens during the culminating ceremony of Elderly Filipino Week.

As part of the culmination of Elderly Filipino Week, the National Commission on Senior Citizens (NCSC) awarded SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of SM Supermalls, for its efforts and contributions towards the welfare and empowerment of the elderly in the country.

The program was held at the SM Mall of Asia Annex (MAAX) Building auditorium on October 7, Saturday.

SM Prime Holdings, Inc. Chairman of the Executive Committee Hans T. Sy and SM Supermalls Senior Vice President and SM Cares Program Director for Seniors Engr. Bien C. Mateo were also presented with distinctions from the Commission. Other notable guests, such as Emmanuel E. Daez, Acting Executive Director, NCSC; and NCSC Chairperson and CEO Atty. Franklin M. Quijano, were in attendance.

The culminating program, aptly titled “LEGACY: Stories of hope and inspiration” sought to award and honor the invaluable contributions of elderly citizens to the nation. The Philippine Plan of Action for Senior Citizens 2024-2028 was also launched that same day.

SM remains a strong advocate for the elderly, seen through projects and initiatives like the SM Cares Emergency Preparedness Forum, which has been able to provide disaster and risk reduction training to thousands of senior citizens across the country since 2015. SM Supermalls also launched its Super Grannies Club, an online community on Facebook dedicated solely to senior citizens.

“SM is the mall for all, but most especially our senior citizens. Thus, we believe in cultivating a society where no one is left behind. Our seniors deserve to enjoy their golden years by being empowered to live as productive members of the community they belong to,” said Mateo.
