Description
The Price of Every Second is Ela Andal's striking metaphor for time as the new commodity of luxury, exploring the diluted relationship time, wealth, and societal values have. Its ironic use of a lowbrow technique serves jarring contrasts as the main medium of expression, evoking a sense of coordinated chaos pervasive in the current culture of materialism as a vain pursuit of what is valued yet evades the senses--more time. In this canvas, success is asserted as financial gain but insists on asking the viewer if the popular adage "Time is Money" has become too literal in a hyper consumerist world.

About the artist
Ela Andal is a pop surrealism artist from the Philippines. Her previous life working in graphic design for consumer brands influenced her style and approach to condensing cultural critique into bold, thought-provoking pieces.
Drawing inspiration from artists like Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and KAWS, her work aims to encourage a critical consumption of modern society's prevailing norms, on top of rendering a positive then euphoric reception of the human experience.
Her work has been exhibited in galleries here and abroad, gracing venues such as the Village Art Gallery in Metro Manila and in international venues like Gallery Steiner in Vienna, showcasing Filipino contemporary art globally.
