Going into a job interview is like riding a rollercoaster of feels. You’re stoked to finally get a callback, but you’re low-key freaking out about the questions they are going to ask you. You’re hopeful about the possibility of finally landing your dream job, and so on. But if anything, you shouldn’t feel overwhelmed.  Sure, there's a ton to prep before the big day, but hey, we got your back!

We’ll give you some tips about what to wear for your job interview. We’ll also give you a list of the docs you gotta have ready beforehand, both for the interview and when you're gearing up for that first day hustle!

What should you wear?

The simplest answer is to always dress a step above. We’re certain that you have done your research on the company you’re applying for, and have probably seen a glimpse of what their culture is like. When it comes to your job interview, it’s always best to err on the side of caution. If the company you’re applying for is formal, then be ready with your suit and tie. If they’re pretty casual, it’s still best to come in a semi-formal attire. You want to appear professional and respectful of the opportunity being given to you.

As you are making your first impression, stick to neutral colors and avoid anything too flashy or distracting. Don’t forget proper grooming etiquette too! Make sure to iron your clothes, comb your hair, and/or trim your nails before facing your interviewers.

Lastly, you want to wear something that is also comfortable. Interviews may last for several hours, so you have to be comfy to keep your cool while waiting for your turn to wow the hiring manager.

Here are some of our favorite picks from these trusty brands you can find at your favorite SM Malls! Consider these as your style pegs, rather than the absolute rule.

Long sleeve polos or button downs

This is the barest of minimums when it comes to semi-formal or formal wear. Nothing says “I’m a professional” than a collared shirt or blouse and the long sleeves that go with them.

For her: This Piereinna top from Kamiseta looks very prim and proper. The laced collar and cuffs add a subtle cuteness to the overall look and feel of it.

For him: This long sleeve polo from Bench can be worn for dressier occasions such as your job interview, but can also be worn at more casual events like date nights with your significant other.

Trousers

Choose a pair of well-fitting trousers that will make you look professional and feel comfortable at the same time.

For her: Cop these flared fit trousers from Regatta for an elevated style and a balanced silhouette that makes you look super sophisticated.

For him: These slim-fit trousers from Zara give off a tailed look without being overly tight. The viscose fabric they used is also light and comfortable to wear.

Dresses or Skirts

These are classic pieces of attire that certainly screams femininity and professionalism. When choosing a dress or a skirt, make sure that the length and style you’re going for is work-appropriate.

This lace-y dress from Maldita is midi-length, which makes it very work-appropriate. It’s lace fabric adds a touch of elegance and femininity to its overall look too. Meanwhile the Column Skirt from H&M is also at calf-length, which is also ideal for the corporate setting. The high waistline can make you look taller too!

Blazers

Blazers offer a quick way to elevate the formality of any clothing. Pop this over your simple tops or dresses and it will surely go a long way in making you look profesh!

For her: This Open Jacket from Terranova is simple and minimalistic, with the gathered sleeve adding a touch of detail that doesn’t distract.

For him: This Miracle Air Jacket from Uniqlo is not only slick and versatile, it also features their AirSense technology. It’s incredibly stretchy, lightweight, and quick-drying!

Closed Shoes

Wearing closed shoes makes you look professional and formal. It also gives off the vibe that you pay attention to detail, that you are someone who gives consideration for the occasion.

For her: Nothing spells class and sophistication than a good ‘ol pair of the classic black pumps, like these ones from Aldo. They make you look polished, give you height, and they’re also very stylish.

For him: Oxford shoes have a timeless design and have been a staple in fashion for centuries. They definitely look professional but are also versatile, just like these ones from Call it Spring.
