SM Supermalls scored two Silver Awards at the prestigious International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Global Awards 2019 for Asia Pacific for the ‘#AweSM: SM Celebrates 60’ campaign and SM China’s ‘Children’s Happy Home’, under the ‘Public Relations and Events’ and ‘Cause Related Marketing’ categories, respectively. The awards were conferred at the recently concluded awarding ceremony held in Singapore.

“Receiving these global recognitions is quite humbling as these feats truly reaffirm our commitment to innovation and creating family fun experiences,” said SM Supermalls chief operating officer Steven Tan.

Starting as a humble shoe store in Manila established by its founder Henry Sy Sr. in 1958, SM has grown into the Philippines’ biggest chain of malls. From May to October 2018, SM marked its 60th anniversary with the ‘#AweSM: SM Celebrates 60’ campaign, a multi-faceted celebration that featured 60-themed experiences, fun activities, digital videos and activations, sale events, and employee engagement programs.

To address the pressing issue of “left-behind children” in China, SM built the ‘Children’s Happy Home’ which is a long-term plan that aims to create a safe space for kids where they can live and spend fun childhood memories even if their parents are away. Moreover, SM also launched creative public actions that appeal for more public awareness and influence migrant workers.
