Farmer-businessman Rene Maduro is a firm believer of the wealth and wonders that lie in nature. He concocted various food supplements made of natural herbs and organic products such as their 10-in-1 turmeric tea, powdered lemongrass, powdered pandan, powdered sambong, powdered malunggay, powdered ginger, and calamansi concentrate with honey aimed at promoting good health through his enterprise Yamang Bukid.

What started out as just an itinerant table on Session Road, Baguio City seven years ago has grown into a staple kiosk in different malls, groceries and department stores. A distributor of their products introduced them to SM, which opened more doors for the business.

“SM is one of the key partners kung bakit nag-grow ang Yamang Bukid. Kapag sinabing SM, dinadayo ‘yan ng tao, so it helped us generate more sales,” Jean Suarez, Chief Operating Officer of Yamang Bukid, shares.

As the business grew, Rene’s desire to give back to communities and to nature itself grew even bigger. In 2017, he bought a parcel of land in Puerto Princesa, Palawan and converted it into a farm. As that area faced a problem with illegal logging, he resolved to hire loggers and gave them a livelihood to take care of nature instead of destroying it. Now, the Yamang Bukid Farm is a tourist destination that is also supported by the local government. From 20 in 2017, 300 farmers now consider it their home and primary source of income.

“Naniniwala si Sir Rene na may yaman ang kalikasan, at kapag tinulungan mo ang mga magsasaka, lalo mo pang mapapayaman ang bukid,” Jean says.
