Even as the nation went in quarantine, SM Supermalls has consistently and zealously served the Filipino people still. We have spent the past months aiding heroes in the frontlines while maintaining minimal operations to cater to the public’s essential needs.
Customer safety and satisfaction have always been our top priorities, and today, when public safety is more important than ever, we go the extra mile to make sure Filipinos enjoy #SafeMallingAtSM. We follow industry-best safety practices and sanitation protocols that comply with strict government guidelines, all while providing that trademark excellent service that people have missed.
Here are some of the procedures we uphold to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for everyone. Health is a communal responsibility and we encourage all of our beloved mallgoers to join our campaign. If you are visiting an SM mall for the first time since the quarantine period, we hope that you observe these practices with us!
1. No Mask, No Entry
Face masks help prevent the spread of viruses in the air and protect individuals from contracting airborne germs. To minimize the risk of infection, we are enforcing a “No Mask, No Entry” policy at all SM branches. We also advise everyone to wear their masks at all times while within the mall premises.
2. Temperature Checks
SM Supermalls has installed thermal scanners on all mall entrances and has equipped all security officers with infrared thermometers to closely monitor visitors’ body temperature. To double the precaution, SM tenants join the campaign by assigning body temperature checkpoints at their respective stalls and stores, too.
3. Disinfectant Mats and Hand Sanitizers
The novel coronavirus can stay on surfaces from hours to days and people who touched or stepped on these surfaces unknowingly carry the virus with them. To prevent the virus from entering the mall premises, SM Supermalls requires visitors to step on disinfectant mats and dab their hands with hand sanitizers at mall entrances. Alcohol hand sprays are also made available in different areas inside the malls to minimize cross-contamination.
4. Physical Distancing
To further prevent infection, SM Supermalls has adopted strategies that promote distancing within mall premises. Quick-to-spot and easy-to-understand marks have been placed on floors and escalators to guide people in observing safe distances, to control the customer traffic, and to minimize close contacts among mallgoers. Physical distancing protocols also cover elevators, parking lots, and wait areas at restaurants. Finally, safety protocol officers are dispatched to make sure the rules are followed. We do all these to help Filipinos pick up the habit and turn the practice into a lifestyle.
5. Real-Time Disinfection
SM Supermalls takes its mallgoers’ welfare very seriously. Taking a proactive approach to maintaining a clean environment and a safe experience for everyone, we mobilize a specialized sanitation team that regularly disinfects high-touch surfaces. These include grocery carts and baskets, toilet furnishings, and handrails.
6. Deep Cleaning After Mall Hours
One can never be too careful when facing an enemy that is invisible to the naked eye. This is why SM Supermalls goes above and beyond in its sanitation protocols. Before and after mall hours, every SM mall performs deep cleaning and disinfection procedures to ensure a safe risk-free environment every day for mallgoers, SM tenants, and employees alike.
7. Employee Safety and Health
SM Supermalls places the same high regard on customer welfare on its employee’s well-being. To guard all members of the SM team from infection, protective gear such as face masks, face shields, and gloves are supplied daily. We also require all our personnel to undergo rapid testing to make sure everyone is healthy.
We Are Here, Always Ready to to Serve
Reopening the economy is a small first step to rebuilding the country. Without a cure to the coronavirus disease, the nation is still far from healing. Rest assured that SM Supermalls is here to serve the Filipino people on the march toward recovery. And we begin by providing safe environments where everybody can regain a sense of normalcy.
We admit that we cannot do it all alone, so we ask for everyone’s participation and commitment to maintaining clean spaces and safe experiences for all. Wear your mask, wash your hands, and avoid physical contact. By simply looking after your health, you are already doing so much for the cause!
