One would never think that the popular Vietnamese sandwich maker, Banh Mi Kitchen, is actually a Filipino brand!

A lover of exotic cuisine, Mon Santos wanted to come up with a food business with a unique and fresh concept that would spur the interest of food-loving Filipinos. His eureka moment came when he stumbled upon a sandwich store that had a similar taste to Bahn Mi. Together with his friends, they then decided to explore this concept and soon launched Banh Mi Kitchen.

While they serve the traditional Vietnamese Bahn Mi flavors, Mon and his team took the bold step to add a twist to cater to diverse customers. They launched the Wagyu Tapa with a touch of Filipino taste, Samgyupsal Kimchi inspired by South Korean flavors and Cheesy Kani Bake influenced by the Japanese Sushi. For a time, they also introduced flavors like the Singaporean Chili Crab and the Indonesian Beef Rendang.

Aside from their sumptuous flavors, Bahn Mi Kitchen also boasts of being nutritious, best for diet-conscious customers. Today, Banh Mi Kitchen has 35 branches and was just about to open more stores in Pampanga, Cebu and Bulacan.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Banh Mi Kitchen continues to prioritize the welfare of their employees and innovate their offerings for customers. They have recently started serving ready-to-drink coffees, packed coffee ground beans and crunchy baguettes, with more to come. Some of Mon’s plans may have been put to a temporary halt, but that did not dampen his spirit. “Our dream is to serve more Filipinos and bring fresh, nutritious and oddly delicious banh mis closer to them,” exclaims Mon.
