It’s common for kids these days to be glued to their gadgets. A survey found that children ages eight and below have an average of two hours and 19 minutes of screen time each day, and concerns have also been raised on phone addiction among young people.

In a bid to expose children to fun and enjoyment outside of their virtual worlds, SM Supermalls offers #AweSMKidsMonth, a month-long celebration across 71 malls in the Philippines where kids are encouraged to get active and enjoy all the activities they love to do at SM — from shopping and eating to playing and winning with their fellow kids."

Our #AweSM deals and fun experiences continue this October, starting off with the nationwide #SuperAweSMKidsDay followed by the annual United Nations Day and Halloween festivities. We dedicate this month to you with everything that you love to do at SM: play, shop, eat, and win,” said Jonjon San Agustin, SM Supermalls senior vice president for marketing during the #SuperAweSMKidsDay Media Launch held at SM City Fairview on Oct 6.

During the grand kick-off celebration, SM Fairview’s atrium was transformed into a gigantic kiddie paradise complete with inflatable kiddie slides, a pool of balls, pretend grocery stores, and arcade games, among others.

The kids were dressed in their best superhero costumes (cape, eye mask, and all!), fully embracing SM’s #SuperAweSMKidsDay theme. This is the second year of SM celebrating Kids Month, but San Agustin says that it’s bigger this time around.

“In 2017, we launched Kids' Month only in one mall. This year, we went nationwide with 65 SM Supermalls celebrating #SuperAweSMKidsDay and delighting our kiddie shoppers with the different activities they love doing at their favorite SM malls,” he says. San Agustin also adds that giving platforms for children to enjoy has been at the heart of SM Supermalls.

“Kids are really very close to the hearts of SM Supermalls and to the family of Mr. Henry Sy,” he shares. “These kids will become our future shoppers and later on, heads of their families. And at this point in their lives, we want to be part of their childhood’s happiest memories that they will remember until they grow up.”

San Agustin also says that seeing children laugh and have fun in SM Supermalls has been rewarding, especially since seeing a child smile is nothing but pure, unadulterated happiness.
