It was a celebration of trailblazing restaurateurs, both established and new, defining what’s next to offer to the Filipino foodie. Held last May 19, 2015 at the Rizal Ballroom in Makati Shangri-La Hotel, The Zomato Restaurant Summit opened the opportunity to discover and discuss challenges and new possibilities in the now very tech-savvy food market. In attendance were food entrepreneurs, marketing professionals, and major industry movers, including SM Supermalls.

With the theme “Conquering the Digital Age”, the Zomato Summit exhausted such aspects in the industry as brand loyalty, integrating technology in the restaurant business, and managing crises in the social media sphere. One of the summit speakers, Ms. Abba Napa, co-founder of The Moment Group, which includes 8Cuts Burger Blends and Manam at SM Mall of Asia, and Linguini Fini at SM Megamall, shares, "I look at restaurants as brands people go to.” The restaurant then becomes an experience that engages beyond food.

SM Supermalls is one with Zomato Philippines in fueling innovative concepts to design special dining experiences. It is keen to partner with key retailers and nurture promising start-ups to bring new flavors and products, more distinct restaurant design, and unique ambience for Filipino foodies.

All these will come together to create a special dining experience worth revisiting and worth sharing. Ms. Gina Katigbak, SM Supermalls AVP for Business Planning, put these into context, “Food brings people together the way e-commerce will not be able to. More than just a place to shop, the malls have become social hubs where people come together and dining is big part of that.” This comes into play later this year particularly with the opening of the newest landmark SM mall to rise in the Visayas region, SM Seaside City Cebu, this November 2015.
