National University Bulldogs were able to secure two championship titles in two different sports in the on-going 79th UAAP Season.

NU smashers completed a historic three-peat in the UAAP men’s badminton tournament after sweeping the Ateneo Blue Eagles last October 15.

The Bulldogs smashers recorded a 3-0 win over the Blue Eagles to sweep the best-of-three finals series that also extend their winning run to 27 ties, the first one dating back from 2014.

In the first singles, Bulldogs smasher Keeyan Gabuelo whipped Blue Eagle Carlo Remo, 21-18 and 21-17.

Season 79 MVP Leeward Pedrosa then delivered a superb performance for the Bulldogs after defeating rookie Keoni Asuncion, 21-13 and 21-10 in the second singles.

In the doubles pair, Mike Minuluan and Alem Palmares joined forces to totally dominate Hanz Bernardo and Jan Mangubat, 21-17 and 21-19. NU Coach Jaime Llanes is beyond ecstatic in the recent and rare feat by the Bulldogs squad.

“I am very happy sa three-peat ng team and sa performance nila. Talagang ‘di sila nagbigay sa kalaban ng chance na makabalik pa and they really want the crown talaga.” Coach Llanes shared.

This is the NU Bulldogs smashers fourth championship overall in the last five seasons.

Meanwhile, the Lady Bulldogs taekwondo team also recorded a historic first after bagging their first-ever women’s title in the UAAP Taekwondo tournament last October 25 at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.

Lightweight jin Shiryl Badol led the Bulldogs attack the entire season which later earned her the Most Valuable Player award.

The Lady Bulldogs carved out a perfect season after recording a six-match elimination sweep.
